Year Five - Class 5L 2024 - 2025

Mr Kenny

Welcome to class 5L's homepage!

Our class teacher is Mr Kenny and our teaching assistant is Mrs Faulkner.

The other teacher within year 5 is Mr Folksman.

Please see some important information about our class below.

Homework:

Homework is set on a Monday and is due to be completed by Friday when we will have a spelling and multiplications test in class.

The homework will be one Maths and one English activity. This is set on a free website - www.satscompanion.com - and can be accessed on smart phone, tablet or laptop.

Children should be reading each day.

Reading books will be changed when a book has been read and the diary has been signed by an adult. Even if a book is not finished, we ask that your child brings their bookbag into school once a week to show us the progress they are making.

We understand that time is precious, but we ask that you listen to your child read and have a discussion about their book as often as you can. This will help to improve their comprehension skills.

PE:

Our timetabled P.E lessons are Monday afternoon (weather dependant) and Tuesday afternoon. We ask that the children arrive at school in their PE kit ready for the lesson, they will remain in their PE kit for the whole school day.

During cold weather, the children can wear black tracksuit bottoms or leggings, over their green PE shorts. The children can also wear their school jumper or cardigan over their white PE top.

Attendance & Punctuality:

Our attendance target for this year is 96%. It is vitally important that your child attends school regularly and punctually so that they can achieve their full potential. Children need to be in school, and on time, everyday arriving between 8:40am and 8:55am ready for lessons to start. We complete daily morning challenges at this time to recap previous learning; practice a skill such as handwriting or multiplications; finish incomplete work from the previous day or prepare for a new lesson by completing a starter activity or sticking in the relevent worksheets.

Water bottles:

We encourage the children to bring a water bottle into class to have a drink throughout the day. Please ensure the drink is not flavoured when sending it into school with your child.  Plastic Bottles also please.

Communication:

We understand that every now and again you might need to contact us, therefore we ask that you sign up to our class Seesaw account using the log in that is sent out at the beginning of the year, as this is a great way to keep update with upcoming events. Our page will include: key information about upcoming events; photographs of the children completing activities in class; school newsletters; other information letters and examples of work completed by the children.

If you have any questions about our class or want further information about any of the information above then please feel free to contact Mr Kenny.
