At St Laurence’s our curriculum is designed to be continuous and progressive from Nursery to Year 6 and aims to meet our children’s individual needs in a broad range of experiences. A variety of teaching methods i.e whole class, group and individual and a variety of approaches i.e subject and topic, are used to develop and build our children’s knowledge, skills and understanding. Our Curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at our school and society. We prepare pupils at our school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
In Key stages 1 and 2 each year group has long term plans which set out in detail the content for each subject. The subjects include English, Mathematics, Art, Music, Design Technology, Physical Education, Computing, History and Geography, Science, Modern Foreign Languages (KS2) and Religious Education.
We always aim to be inclusive throughout our curriculum, supporting our children with differentiated lessons for all. Where children have special educational needs or a disability we make provisions so that anyone can thrive and flourish in our school.
“The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.”
(Dfe, National Curriculum Document 2013)
